A Brief history of the 2011-2014 McLaren MP4-12C

This was the first McLaren street car since the legendary F1 in 1992 (we will ignore the SLR since that was a collaboration) and they returned strong. Introducing a carbon tub with extruded aluminum subframes, this supercar competed with the likes of the Ferrari 458 at the time. With a revolutionary hydraulically linked suspension system known as proactive chassis control, McLaren could give you a quality ride around town and then dial it up to give incredible lap times. The range of performance from this system is still unmatched in the market. The power and torque numbers were also very impressive from a first attempt supercar. With initial numbers of 592 HP and 443 lb-ft, later models had an upgraded HP number of 616 which became a free upgrade for the earlier cars.

Even with the incredible engineering and performance, it was no overnight success for McLaren Automotive. It took time and refinement for them to become a household name and a true option for those considering a car in this bracket. This was the progenitor for all McLarens to come afterward, and the supercar world is a better place with them in the market.

Why it makes a good track car

The unbelievable performance is what makes it a great track car. With an unparalleled suspension system, incredible power and torque from the twin turbo 3.8L V8, and incredible feeling hydraulic steering. For the price these go for, you will have a hard time finding something that performs better that is still street legal.
