History of the 10th Gen Civic

The 10th Gen Honda Civic was quite a revolution for the Honda Civic in the eyes of U.S. enthusiasts. This was the first time that Honda introduced turbocharged motors, with their sole naturally aspirated offering being reduced to the base model engine. For a company known for holding the record for most naturally aspirated horsepower per liter, it felt almost like a betrayal to the most die-hard of Honda enthusiasts. Almost is the key word, as the 10th Gen Civic is also the first time in history that the U.S. market received the Civic Type-R which turned out to be the perfect salve for the sting left behind by the high-revving NA engines of old. For the 10th Gen Civic Si, the swap to a smaller turbocharged engine resulted in real life performance that outshined its on-paper performance. Still mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the turbocharged Si boasted quicker acceleration than its older K24-powered sibling and was tuned so efficiently that any potential delay in the turbocharger spooling was nearly imperceptible. Plus, turbo sounds are their own sort of fun.

In rare form, the 10th generation Civic offered some version of its 6-speed manual and 1.5L turbo engine combination across a wide variety of trim options. The milder versions such as the Sport and EX-T offered most of the thrills, but unfortunately lack a factory LSD. The Civic Si, in true performance fashion, included the LSD and a horsepower bump over its non-Si counterparts. The Si also included adaptive dampers. Aside from not being offered in the hatchback body style, the Si is the better base platform for performance tuning.
