BMW F06 F12 F13 M6 Wheel Performance

Despite being a capable platform from the factory, the F06 F12 F13 M6 wheels limit the overall performance of the car by restricting the tire width. Apex Forged and Flow Formed wheels take advantage of the extra width available in the factory wheel wells and allow M6 owners to run wider tires to increase performance. About the F06 F12 F13 M6

First launched in 2012, the 3rd generation M6 featured the potent twin-turbo S63 and 7 speed DCT used by the M5. While the DCT was a welcome upgrade over the prior generations single-clutch SMG system, the M6 also featured a very rare 6-speed manual option. The F12 (2 door coupé) and F13 (convertible) models launched first with the F06 (4 door gran coupé) following afterward. In the standard configuration, the S63 output a healthy 560 claimed horsepower while optional competition packages bumped power up to 575 initially and eventually 600hp.

Following the trend of the 5 series, this generation of M6 was more conservatively styled with a less risky design that has aged well over time.

F06 F12 F13 M6 Performance on Track

While not many of the street cars were used on track, it wasn’t for a lack of capability. The F12 M6 served as the basis for BMW Motorsport’s GT3 car from 2016 through 2018 with a relatively unmodified and restricted version of the S63/N63 engine. Despite the size and weight of the large GT platform, this short GT3 program was quite successful with a class win at the Spa 24 hours in 2016 helping to establish the car’s launch. The standard M6s were formidable track cars for drivers willing to manage the weight and power of the platform, but the high costs of maintenance, consumables, and modifications made them a rare sight at most track days. The carbon ceramic brake option, while quite beneficial for weight and braking performance reduces the number of wheel and tire options as well as massively increases the cost of replacement parts.

Our new forgings weigh as much as 120 pounds before machining. To form such a thick blank we require special equipment capable of 10,000 metric tons of pressure. This extreme pressure increases the strength of the aluminum by eliminating porosity and improving the grain structure.

To be as light as possible the VS-5RS features extra-deep, side-milled spokes. Any excess material that doesn’t add strength is machined out using a precision CNC ball cutter. Side-milling is often deemed cost-prohibitive by others, but for true performance without compromise we believe it's essential.

Our forged Sprint™ wheels are lightweight without the strength compromises found on typical lightweight wheels. First, we machined out as much material as possible, then we purposefully added one pound back to reinforce critical areas, creating a stronger inner lip and a higher load rating.² What’s the point of a lightweight wheel if it’s fragile?

Big Brake Clearance

From day one, APEX has been on a mission to build wheels that clear big brakes. Our new forged wheels are the product of everything we’ve developed over the past 10+ years, including an innovative high-clearance barrel design and vehicle-specific spoke profiles.

Deeper Concavity

Paintless Knurled Bead

Whether it's a day at the track or months of street driving, repeated hard braking and acceleration can make a tire slip along the bead seat and go out of balance, causing vibration. Hub Centric

All VS-5RS wheels are purpose built for select vehicle applications. Very few applications require centering rings.

Center Caps

All APEX wheels come with our gloss black cap included that is interchangeable with the OE cap. We also offer additional colors for select fitments.

Wheel Hardware

APEX wheels can be used with all OEM mounting hardware, proper aftermarket hardware and most wheel spacers. Wheel locks and stud conversion kits also work perfectly.

TPMS

All APEX wheels accept OEM and aftermarket Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors and standard fit valve stems. If you don’t have sensors, then select from our metal stems available in multiple finishes.
