Trevor Janke and the rest of the crew over at Famous Racing in Nebraska have spent the past few years building themselves a monster Trans Am car with humble beginnings. Starting out with your average 5th Gen Camaro SS, they got to work quickly cutting things up in pursuit of what we all dream of, faster lap times.
After stripping the car down to the bare frame, they added a cage complemented with additional chassis reinforcements and seam welding. The suspension was overhauled with custom coilovers that allowed for more tire clearance while the LS3 powerplant was freshened up with an upgraded camshaft package, headers, intake, and dry sump conversion to help the LS engine live under constant hard cornering. The car sports mostly stock bodywork, save for a new front splitter, rear wing, and diffuser all in the name of more downforce. 18” EC-7 wheels wrapped in Pirelli slicks finish off this machine.

All of the work was focused on slotting it into the TA4/GT class, however recent rule changes bumped them up into SGT despite still having most of the GT level parts on the car. Working with what they had, the team was able to drop over 8 seconds off their best lap time throughout the Trans AM West Coast Championship race weekend at COTA and run a solid race, only a few seconds off the top class time.
Over the offseason they plan to make a few necessary changes and move back into the GT class it was originally built for. We have no doubts they’ll be able to accomplish big things next year and are very excited to watch. Good luck from the APEX team!

Prior to joining APEX, he worked as Service Advisor at an automotive performance shop. Never one to sit at a car show, Cory has had a lifelong passion for performance driving. His extensive track experience began with HPDEs in 2015. He soon got the itch to start competing in time trials, which he has been doing ever since. Among the cars he has tracked are three Mustang GTs (2005, 2006, 2011), a 2016 Fiesta ST, and his current ride, a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport with APEX SM-10RS wheels. Fun Fact: Apparently Cory’s love of speed isn’t limited to the racetrack; after not training at all, he recently ran a 5K and placed 7th out of 210 competitors.
