Camaro ZL1 1LE Track Car on 19” APEX ARC-8 Wheels

Article | 06/05/2020 by Cory Smetzler

We originally planned to meet up with Mike Cline and his 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE at the raceway but these crazy COVID-19 times led to a change of plans. With the track day canceled and Mike being a former Marine (thank you for your service), we were able to get access at Camp Pendleton for what turned out to be an amazing photo opportunity.

The ZL1 1LE is arguably the greatest track car GM has ever made. It doesn’t require much to get this car in race shape with exception of some functional parts such as Studio RSR roll bar, Hawk Performance Brake Pads, Sparco Seats with six point harness, high quality Torco oils and of course a set of our 19” ARC-8 wheels. Mike runs our Camaro-specific staggered 19×11” / 19×12” setup with 305s in front and 325s in the rear providing the grip this powerful rear wheel drive monster requires. The ARC-8 is a timeless motorsport design engineered to optimize weight and strength featuring knurled beading to reduce tire slippage during hard braking.

“The level of grip is incredible not to mention how much better the wheels look over stock. I’ve used APEX wheels on a previous track car (BMW M4) and was impressed with the toughness and durability because I’m known to clip curbs as needed. Look around and you’ll see APEX wheels at any track event and that’s because it’s a proven, solid and reliable brand!” ~Mike Cline

We hope you enjoy the photos below, and we are excited to see Mike and his ZL1 later this year at SEMA located in the Torco booth.

Cory has been Domestic Fitment Expert at APEX since 2018, helping owners figure out the proper wheel fitments for their Camaro, Corvette, Mustang, Challenger, Charger, Cadillac, and Tesla vehicles. Prior to joining APEX, he worked as Service Advisor at an automotive performance shop. Never one to sit at a car show, Cory has had a lifelong passion for performance driving. His extensive track experience began with HPDEs in 2015. He soon got the itch to start competing in time trials, which he has been doing ever since. Among the cars he has tracked are three Mustang GTs (2005, 2006, 2011), a 2016 Fiesta ST, and his current ride, a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport with APEX SM-10RS wheels. Fun Fact: Apparently Cory’s love of speed isn’t limited to the racetrack; after not training at all, he recently ran a 5K and placed 7th out of 210 competitors.
