Fitment Overview

This is our most recommended fitment for the E36. These square wheels are typically run with 245/40-17 tires because of the large numbers of tires available in this size. 5mm front spacers are required with the wider tires, but they are easy to install and a reversible modification. Unlike other rotatable 17" fitments for the E36 in the Aggressive Street or Hardcore Track sections, this option is a direct fit in the rear of the car. The alternate tire size of 235/40-17 is an easy direct fit with no spacers typically required, but tire options are very limited.

These wheels are our default bolt-on 18" recommendation. The larger diameter wheels and narrower tires than our 17" recommendations reduce it's overall performance. The benefit of this fitment lies in the excellent tire availability and zero required modifications. Some enthusiasts don't enjoy the profile 1 appearance of designs in this fitment, but more concave wheel options require modifications on the E36 chassis.

Fitment Overview

A fitment for ARC-8 lovers, this setup is our lone direct fit staggered 18" option available for the E36 3 series. The rear wheel is only available in our flow formed ARC-8 design, but the lack of modifications required and the surprising amount of tires available for this staggered fitment make this an excellent option. These wheels are still profile 1 fitments so those looking for more concavity should consider fitments in the Aggressive Street section.

It maximizes performance compared to other fitments in Aggressive Street, but it requires significant modifications to the car to prevent rubbing. Fitment Overview

18x9 ET30 is one of our most popular wheel sizes. This fitment gives you access to a wide range of Apex designs and is a versatile square setup. We recommend it less commonly than 17x9 ET30 on the E36 only because the tire availability is slightly worse than 17" equivalents and the smaller diameter wheel often suits the E36 chassis visually. Modifications are required to run these wheels, but they are more restrained than wider fitments and require less change to the car overall.

Fitment Overview

This higher offset fitment provides a more track-focused alternative to the ET30 wheels in aggressive street. The 9" wheels support 245s equally well, but the rear fitment is significantly easier than the lower offset wheels. Tire availability is excellent in both the recommended and the alternative size. Versatility is this fitment's strength as it gives driver's a ton of tire options in great sizes for a car with stock power without too many modifications. Spacers and camber are required but these are smaller adjustments than the wider performance-oriented fitments in this section.

Fitment Overview

This setup is a slightly easier-to-fit option that focuses on 265-section tires. While a widebody is still required, the lower offset wheels provide more suspension clearance and fender clearance than the 10" options in the hardcore track category making this a more ideal fitment for someone running coilovers that reduce inner clearance significantly like KWs. Significant modifications are still required like all hardcore track fitments on this guide. Tire availability for this fitment is significantly better than the 17" fitment which makes up for some of the performance deficit.

Fitment Notes

  • Widebody Required - These wheels require wider front and rear fender flares to fit.

  • Camber Plates - This fitment requires aftermarket adjustable camber plates.

  • Coilovers Required - Aftermarket Coilovers are required for wheel and tire clearance.

  • Negative Camber Required - This fitment requires more camber than the OE alignment. See Tire notes for recommended specs.

  • Rotatable - These wheels and tires can be rotated between the front and rear axles, promoting even tire wear.

  • Square - This fitment features the same wheel and tire size front and rear.

  • Front spacers may be required depending on tire selection and spring configuration.

Fitment Overview

While 17's were the dominant diameter for E36 widebody track cars for many years, this 18" fitment is becoming much more common. Significant modifications are still required to make these wheels and tires fit, but the 18" wheels reward enthusiasts with a massive number of tire models and solid availability compared to 17" wheels. The larger diameter also allows for aftermarket brake kits with bigger rotors. The additional half inch of width makes this the highest performing 18" option, but ultimately this wheel and tire setup is still heavier than the 17x10 square option.
