History of the DC5 RSX

The Acura RSX, as many hardcore enthusiasts know, wore the Integra name in other markets outside of North America. Once the naming is understood, it becomes much more obvious what this car was meant to be. Take the legend of the 3rd generation Acura Integra and evolve it for the new millennium. Many would argue that the DC5 RSX did just that. Maintaining the Acura philosophy - sporty with a hint of luxury, and the Integra philosophy - ultimate front drive machine, the Acura RSX was exactly what you would want in a sequel, especially in Type-S form. The RSX Type-S is a lightweight machine that paired a slick-shifting 6-speed manual transmission to the high-revving K20 engine all while the bolsters of a perforated leather seat hugged the driver. The RSX offered more power and refinement over its predecessor without the usual tradeoffs of feeling overburdened with weight or numbed in feel. The RSX is truly one of the vehicles enthusiasts mean when they say they don’t make ‘em like they used to.

Debuting in the U.S. for the 2002 model year, the RSX ran for a couple of years before a major facelift in 2005. The later 2005 and 2006 models did receive revised styling, but also a few updates in the performance category. The updated K20 motor featured 10 more horsepower and the transmission featured a shorter 4.7 final drive ratio, resulting in quicker acceleration over the earlier years. Revised suspension tuning also resulted in handling improvements though most aftermarket modifications would render these changes hard to notice these days. Ultimately, the choice between the earlier and later models is mostly preference.
